Archaeological Museum of Heraklion

The Archaeological Museum of Heraklion is undoubtedly one of the most important museums in Greece. Fully renovated recently, its exhibitions cover almost 5,000 years of history, from the Neolithic era to the Roman times. However, it primarily is a museum of the Minoan civilisation, where Minoan worship items, jewellery, double axes, sarcophagus, the famous Kamares ware and naturally the emblematic Minoan finds are, such as the Faistos Disc, the ring of Minos, the Snake Goddess as well as the original frescoes from Knossos Palace. Ideally, you may combine your visit to the museum with a visit to Knossos, in order to have a complete picture of the Minoan civilization.
